The following text samples primarily serve to exemplify the level of complexity and quality required of all students in a given grade band (below includes texts identified for grades 6-8 as well a s a list of exemplars from previous grade levels). Additionally, they are suggestive of the breadth of texts that students should encounter in the text types required by the California Standards. The choices should serve as useful guideposts in helping select texts of similar complexity, quality, and range. They expressly do not represent a partial or complete reading list. However, many of the texts in the story section will work well for our classics literature unit.
